Dominique Ansel’s Cronuts are the new insane food fad in NYC. One might say that it’s gotten really out of control. I have heard stories of fights breaking out over these things. A guy was soliciting sexual favors for them. and an underground market is flourishing for these pastries.
I learned about these after beginning my new job in NYC. The funny thing is that many other places sell these pastries. I was able to get some with no wait at Gregory’s Coffee.
My verdict? Like some of the articles I linked above – they were pretty good. I do not know how they compare to the Dominique Ansel ones, but I have zero desire to wait in a 3 hour line for something that I am ultimately going to turn into poo. My take on this is that this is just the next fad that will peak and then fizzle out. My understanding is that the core group of people waiting in line are people who want to impress their clients with the rare fad thing and scalpers. The rest are people who are just curious to see what all the fuss is about. Of course I want to try a real Cronut. I am curious, too. I am just not curious enough to wait in line like that when probably in 6 months there will be no line.
